Finnish Board Gaming Championships
Filed Under General | Leave a Comment
It’s always great to have pre set goal in gaming and one of the best ways to have such goals is to attend in all sorts of tournaments. Thus it was no surprise that I was very willing to gather a team in the Finnish Board Gaming Championships that were held in Helsinki last Saturday. Event was for four member teams and every member had to participate in four different games of total eight games available in the tournament.
My team was 2/4 gamers from my regular weekend gaming group which ment that the games that were played in the tournament were mostly unfamiliar to the players before we decided to enroll. The other 2/4 (including me) were more experienced players and more familiar with the games.
I didn’t long to form a team strategy which aimed at mainly having fun in the tournament. It was also almost impossible to fit the schedules so that we could practise as a team and this further strengthened our mission. Obviously we were not there to lose games but eventlually it would not be a big deal if we would.

Medalists of the tournament
There were al the best players in Finland and tough games in tight schedule. 14 teams fought for the Championship and there were just too many better players than we. My personal score was 2-3-4-4 (finishhing place) which could have been much better. I played Genial (2nd), Genoa (4th), Pillars of the Earth (3rd) and Ticket to Ride (4th) of which Genial went ok and I was satisfied, I hoped more from Genoa but the table I got into was extremely tough, I strugled through Pillars with bad luck and didn’t even deserve the third place I got and got badly beaten in TtR.
My team’s performance wasn’t much better but everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and none complained. Winners of the tournament are going to Essen and Spiel where the European Championships are held and there’s going to be a excellent team from Finland competing in the tournament. I’m also pretty sure that I will have a team in the next Finnish Championships because the 12 out of 14 place is not much to be proud of.

Best Player of the Tournament: Stefan Engblom
